Today as I was pondering life's mysteries, I started thinking about all the places I've seen and all the places I would like to go. I was reminded of the question many people ask me whenever they hear of my adventures abroad -"What has been your favorite place that you have visited?"- That my friends, is a loaded question and one that is incredibly difficult to answer.

I usually start answering this question by saying how much I liked this one place, but then it quickly snowballs into.. "yeah, but this place was also really cool, oh and this one time here...." My brain suddenly explodes with visions and memories saying "pick me, pick me". Each and every place has brought it's own unique and life changing experiences. To just choose one seems unfair to every other memory.

Maybe I could break it down to the landscape and layout of the lands, but that still poses a problem. I love feeling on top of the world from the mountains, and listening to the soothing waves crash against the beach, and being completely enclosed in the forests. I LOVE IT ALL! I especially love how the different scenes can make you feel as if you stepped into a story book. In Scotland I felt like I was a woman from the middle ages. In China I was a weary wanderer making my way through the countryside with my staff and herbs (I had neither of these of course, but I easily imagined myself in this role). It is amazing how a place can transport you back in time. Each place had its own identity that would entice you in, making it that much more difficult to choose a favorite.

And so, this question continues to receive vague responses. It is not a bad question, on the contrary, it is a rather excellent question, and I do not mind getting asked. Just don't be disappointed in the answer. I suppose my answer would be.... they are all my favorite. Every single country, state, city, small village, middle of nowhere, are my favorite. They all hold a special place in my heart and they have all kept a piece.

I have left a piece in Greece. One piece is still wandering through the highlands in Scotland. There is a piece enjoying the ruins of Rome, and another is still out there among the rice terraces of China. There are countless more scattered across the planet and I will continue to leave little bits of my heart wherever I go.

It's a beautiful thing to say you have loved so many places (and maybe some that you haven't). I already know I'll leave some love behind in California and my true love will forever be Wisconsin, but I look forward to discovering new loves. So, dear friends, before I sign off I have a question for you. Where have you left your heart and where will you leave it next?
